Lestat's 120 Minutes Of Gothic Music

Keep death and judgment always in your eye, none's fit to live but who is fit to die....

When I was a boy, I was exposed to music from my other brother Steven. He played alot of differant types of music from rock n roll to new wave. When I got older, my brother Mike listen to Peter Murphy. Tho through out my High School years most of the credit goes to my best friend “bubbles” who listened to Bauhaus and introduced me to their music. All these people influenced me in one way or another.

With these influences I wanted to be Gothic. So after my graduation I decided to be in the Goth scene. One day going to a clothing store called Gamma-Gamma (the original gothic clothing store in San Diego unlike the trendy Hot Topic.) I saw a flyer from a club called SubNation. After Hearing about this club and from others in school I tried to go but it was closed due to a death. At this time I didn’t know who it was but it turned out to be a known D.J. in the Gothic scene named Tom Feeney.

So in 1990 I was working at The Wherehouse records and I met a girl named Jenny Queren and we went out to the clubs in San Diego. She introduced me to her cousin who worked at KCR and he got me a broadcasting D.J. slot for a four hour show a week. During this time I was still going out to the clubs not knowing anybody except Jenny. One club that we enjoyed going to alot was called Catacomb. After awhile going there I started to met alot of new friends and learned more about the Gothic lifestyle.

Around 1992 I met Demian Dorrance at the club called Chain Reaction. The funny story about how I met him went like this - he came up to me one night at the club and asked me what song and group I would like to listen to. And I said "Bauhaus - Bela Lugosi’s Dead ". The next minute I heard my song, I was shocked because nobody ever played a request I asked for. From there our friendship grew. During that time I helped him out with his project club called Mass. All I can say is that club could never be copied even if others tried in their dreams. From these experiance and knowledge I had from going to the clubs I have adapted into my show at KCR and 24/7 Gothic Radio Station.

On the radio show I play Gothic, Dark Industrial, Ambiant, Batcave and Dark Wave music ,all which may not be familiar to the uninitated but are well known by the Gothic club goers. Some of the artists heard on my show include the well known groups like Bauhaus, Christian Death, Human Drama and Dead Can Dance.

I also play some of the lesser known but rising artists on the Gothic scene such a Switchblade Symphony from San Francisco, London After Midnight, and The Shroud from Los Angeles area. And even local artists from San Diego including Sleepy Hollow, Silent Order and SubNations own Cruciform.

I have met many famous Gothic artists from music, books, and motion pictures. Some of the people I have met included Peter Murphy from Bauhaus, Dru from This Assension, and Johnny Indovina from Human Drama.

Anne Rice is an Author I have met from the novels of the vampire Chonicles and even James O'Bar the creator of the comic series / film " The Crow". I bring the information gained from these meeting and share them to the listeners on the radio show.

I continue to this day to obtain new Gothic music collection and I have obtained interviews with many Gothic artists when few others can. So if you are into the Gothic music scene then give me a listen and call or e-mail me to let me know you are out there.
